Civil War (SE.US 4.06)

The Big Picture
The Civil War was fought nationwide, using new technologies and strategies, but by soldiers who were often ill equipped, underfed, and poorly trained. The conflict resulted in freedom for some 4 million enslaved people and the preservation of a nation. The costs were staggering—more than 600,000 lives lost and about $5 billion in property damaged or destroyed.

The class will explore the USA Civil War (1861-1865), including the cause & effects, battles, individuals’ perspectives, and who this information impacts us today.  Students will use their project ideas from the “Multiple Intelligences” to select a project in their level, to demonstrate “mastery” of the particular theme standard.

SE.US 4.06 = Summarizes the role power, authority, and governance played throughout the Civil War.
PROFICIENT = *Compares and contrasts the lifestyles of people in the North and South.
*Traces the history and economic reasoning for slavery in the South.
*Summarizes the correlation between slavery and statehood.
*Describes the major battles and events in the war.
*Researches 5 individuals that had political or military impact during the war.
