People of Alaska (SE.AK 5.05)

So much of what is surrounding us in Alaska has been here a LONG, LONG time, and yet, we tend to take much for granted.  How did people come to Alaska, and why?  How long have we been here?  What are the beliefs of the original inhabitants?  How can we show respect and empathy for each others’ cultures in sincere ways that build up our state and people?  In this unit, we will be looking at the indigenous cultures of Alaska in order to better understand their background and find ways we can all work and live together.
SE.AK 5.05 Compares and contrasts the characteristics of Native Alaskan groups (Athabascan, Aleut, Tlingit, Inupiaq, Yupik, Alutiuq).
PROFICIENT = *Compares and contrasts the daily lifestyles (food, clothing, shelter, etc.) of various Native Alaskan groups.
*Labels an Alaskan map with the ancestral locations of Native Alaskan groups and major landforms.
