Example:

Starting with the “Cultural Spiral” students will begin to explore their own culture and how historical events impact who we are today. The study will include cultures worldwide; how they interact, and how they have adapted with the current societies and technology advances. Students will use their project ideas from the “Multiple Intelligences” to select a project in their level, to demonstrate “mastery” of the particular theme standard.

For Level 5 students, we will be exploring the cultures around Alaska and how they compare/contrast with other indigenous cultures worldwide. In this unit, we will research current issues facing Indigenous People around the globe, starting with the Global Summit held in Anchorage in April, 2009. Using the Executive Report, we will reflect on the findings and recommend one action that can be and should be taken for Alaskans. This recommendation will be in a form of a proposal to a local / state / US / or Global decision-maker. In addition to this one recommendation, we will explore other cultures in-depth to compare / contrast cultures.
